Cognitive Behaviour Therapeutic skills

to support mental wellbeing

In partnership with Merthyr Tydfil Council, we are delighted to be able to offer FREE help for school and support staff in order for you to best support young people suffering with anxiety and trauma.

This might be in the form of workshops or other resources to allow you to better understand common issues and learn how you can help.

Upskilling for School and Support Staff

WHO ARE WE?

The Exchange specialises in providing psychological support to children, young people and their families. Our therapeutic interventions focus on helping children develop the psychological resources that they need to strengthen their resilience. We work collaboratively with school staff and parents by identifying ways that they can help and resources to achieve this.

what is cbt?

CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) works collaboratively with individuals to create a shared strategy to work together and create positive change. The therapy focuses on examining the relationship between the person's thoughts, feelings and behaviours to help the individual develop strategies for managing problems and maintaining positive wellbeing. CBT often includes activities between therapy sessions to practice techniques and promote positive outcomes.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The support service is for young people aged 11-25 living in Merthyr.

We also offer extended support options for parents, carers and staff which includes:

  • CBT Support for Trauma and Anxiety for Young People and Parents

  • CBT Upskilling Workshops for School and Support Staff

This can take place in schools for young people, VAMT for parents, in-person for school staff and all are also available virtually.

how do referrals work?

Young People, Parents and Carers can complete a referral for support via exchange-counselling.com and select “Merthyr CBT Service Parents” or “Merthyr CBT Service Young People”. After referring, one of our team will be in touch to talk to about support options.
